OUR HISTORY

The Rhoads Terrace Bible Fellowship Church was born out the need to address the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the people of the Rhoads Terrace Housing Project. While a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1983, Pastor Charles came to Dallas and started a witnessing campaign which led to the organizing of several home Bible studies in the community. His goal in his witnessing an teaching was to bring the people to a life changing encounter with the living God. After witnessing and teaching in the community for approximately a year and many people having made profession of faith in Christ, Pastor Charles brought all the bible study groups together for a meeting in the Rhoads Terrace Recreation Center. After a season of prayer, the Rhoads Terrace Bible Fellowship Church was organized. It was decided that the church's emphasis would be:

  • Reaching out to all men through enthuastic evangelism;

  • Developing the people of God through robust teaching and study of the word of God;

  • Preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God; and

  • Serving the members of the church and the community with whatever resources we have.

The church's first public worship was held on Sunday, March 11, 1984 in the Rhoads Terrace Recreation Center. Pastor Charles first message to the church was entitled, "The Vital Signs of a Health Church" taken from Acts 2:37-47, which says,

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved".

The Rhoads Terrace Bible Fellowship Church has been and is committed to seeking God's wisdom and guidance to aid us in fulfilling His will for the church as set forth in His word. We are committed submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, to submitting to the authority of God's word, to being led by the Holy Spirit in all of life, to meeting regularly for worship and bible study, to fellowshiping with the people of God, to bearing witness unto the name of Jesus Christ wherever we are, and to giving liberally out of the resources which God has given to us.
